Worship with Us

Worship at Saint Esprit reflects the diversity and enthusiasm of our members. We are Huguenots and Episcopalians, Africans, Asians, Europeans, and Native Americans, cradle Christians and the newly baptized. We use the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, and elements from our other traditions. Special services throughout the year, such as Huguenot Sunday and Afrique Fête, celebrate the many facets of our heritage.

Our main Sunday service is Holy Communion, or a service of Morning Prayer with music and prayers drawn from the French Protestant tradition. Music and hymn singing are vital and dynamic elements of our worship, under the leadership of our music director, Cynthia Wuco. To hear audio from recent sunday services, click on the audio sidebar.

Our prayers, sermons and hymns are in French, and we use the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, which was first translated for use by our parish in 1802.

On Wednesdays at 12:15, we have a quiet and informal Communion service which provides an oasis of calm in the middle of our busy city.

On Thursdays at 6:30, our church is decurated with candles and icons for a Taizé service with songs, readings, and a period of meditative silence. We are often joined by international visitors to Manhattan who are looking for the peace and atmosphere of mutual support that is characteristic of the Taizé community.

On the third Tuesday in December, we gather for Chantons Noël, our annual service of Christmas carols and readings.

Most services are followed by a reception with coffee in the parish hall or garden. On special occasions, a vin d'honneur or other treats are offered. All are welcome.

Sunday, 11:15 AM

Our main Sunday service is usually Holy Communion. If the second Sunday of the month is not a festival, such as Easter or Epiphany, we hold a service of Morning Prayer with music and prayers in the French Protestant tradition. Four times a year, our main Sunday service is in the style of the Taizé ecumenical community in France.

On Wednesdays we offer a quiet and informal Communion service, which provides an oasis of calm in the middle of our busy city.

Thursday, 6:30 PM

Taizé contemplative prayers are held every Thursday evening. Quiet singing in many languages (including French), contemplation and prayers are facilitated by a candlelit church and a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
